Edinburgh and Budapest airports – which joined the VINCI Airports network in 2024 and are respectively located in Hungary and Scotland – offer a new service designed to make passengers’ journey smoother.

Edinburgh airport introduces home luggage collection service operated by the company Airportr for easyJet and Lufthansa flights

Lufthansa and easyJet passengers travelling through Edinburgh airport can now check in their luggage from home thanks to a new service that allows customers to have their bags collected from their home, office or hotel and checked in ahead of their flight, meaning they can head straight to security. Edinburgh is the first airport in Scotland to offer the service.

easyJet offer a similar luggage collection, delivery and door-to-flight service with Airportr at London Gatwick, also part of the VINCI Airports network, allowing passengers to travel to the airport baggage-free before collecting their luggage at their destination.

The service is available to Lufthansa and easyJet customers at Edinburgh airport and can be booked via the Airportr website:  https://airportr.com/

Passengers at Budapest airport can now check their baggage in downtown Budapest

Thanks to the AirportHUB Bag Free HUB service, an official partner of Budapest airport, passengers can now check in their baggage for a fee at the store located in downtown Budapest. Thanks to this service, passengers with a valid boarding pass featuring a barcode or QR code can enjoy their last few hours of sightseeing without their baggage, reach the airport more conveniently and avoid the queues associated with checking in baggage at the terminal, allowing them to proceed directly to security screening upon arrival.

The service is available to passengers on flights departing between 12:00 noon and midnight, and baggage must be checked in at least four hours before the departure of the flight. Additional requirements are completing online check-in and checking in baggage that meets the airline’s size, weight and shape regulations.

The process is similar to the self-service baggage check-in commonly found at airports: passengers can print their bag tags on-site, attach them to their suitcases and then hand over their hold baggage to store staff. An instructional video guides passengers through the process, and AirportHUB staff are also on hand to assist.

Budapest airport and its partner also ensure the secure handling of baggage; checked in baggage is transported to the airport by a contracted partner in a locked vehicle with a secure cargo compartment, under continuous supervision. Baggage is screened at the terminal and handled in the same way as all other hold baggage.

Downtown baggage drop-off is currently available to Wizz Air passengers who have a boarding pass with a barcode or QR code. Budapest Airport and its partners are working to expand the service.
