Three airports in the VINCI Airports network organize races airside
At Budapest airport, a run and a football tournament took place in September
In mid-September, Budapest airport hosted local aviation professionals for the 14th edition of the "Runway Run" charity race. For one day each year, airplanes give way to runners who take over the airport runway 1 and discover an area usually reserved for air traffic. This year, more than a thousand runners participated.
Beyond the sporting aspect, the " Runway Run" also has a charitable dimension. As in previous years, all race registration fees were donated to two organizations:
The SUHANJ! Foundation which promotes access to sport for people with disabilities or suffering from a disability;
Ments Életet Alapítvány (Save Lives Foundation), which accompanies sick children on the path to recovery.
Over the past thirteen years, more than 12,000 runners have participated in the Runway Run, raising more than 3.7 million euros for supported charities.
Still in the realm of sports, Budapest airport also hosted the 7th annual Airport Football Cup a few days later. Seventeen teams composed of players from companies within the airport community (airlines, emergency services, contractors, etc.) competed; an opportunity to bring together stakeholders who usually interact on a daily basis in various roles, with the airport as a common environment.
In France, Lyon-Bron airport opens its runway to runners for the first time in its history
At the end of September, Lyon Bron Airport opened its runway to the public for the AéroRun, an event focused on sport, conviviality and solidarity.
Nearly 1,500 participants took part, with the following options:
10 km for runners
2.5 km for walkers
The collective energy of this first edition enabled the collection of funds donated to the Aviation Sans Frontières association to contribute to its humanitarian actions, in particular the missions of its hospital aircraft.
Through this event supported by VINCI Airports and Aéroports de Lyon, the objective was to show that an airport is much more than an infrastructure; it is also an open, useful place and fully engaged in the life of its territory.
In Brazil, Salvador Bahia airport is hosting the Corrida da Asa for the third consecutive year
On October 18, starting at 6:15 a.m., nearly 1,500 participants had the opportunity to run on a section of the airport's main runway for the Corrida da Asa (Wing Race), organized in partnership with the Brazilian Air Force. Two options were offered to runners, some of them amateurs and others more experienced: 6 and 10 km.
As with other airports in the VINCI Airports network, this area is usually closed to the public. To make the runway accessible to the runners, Salvador Bahia Airport implemented a special plan involving its operations and security teams, military personnel, and airlines. This plan ensures that the race takes place safely, without impacting landings and takeoffs, as flights continue normally on the auxiliary runway.
The Brazilian Air Force has been organizing the "Corrida da Asa" for over 40 years as part of the "Aviator's Day" celebrations. This year, thirty employees participated in the race, proudly representing Salvador Bahia airport.
