Several airports within the VINCI Airports network in Latin America were recently honoured at the "Green Airports Recognition 2026" ceremony, organized by Airports Council International (ACI) during the ACI World Annual General Assembly in Lima, Peru. These awards celebrate the airports' concrete commitment to decarbonization and environmental efficiency, driven by technological innovation and intelligent data utilization.

Decarbonization and risk prevention rewarded in Brazil

Salvador Bahia Airport distinguished itself by receiving the "Green Airports Recognition 2026" award. This recognition highlights the success of its decarbonization strategy, marked by achieving Level 5 Airport Carbon Accreditation (ACA) at the end of 2025. This success is based on a comprehensive approach integrating energy efficiency, the use of renewable energy, and rigorous data management to drive emission reductions, notably by involving stakeholders across the airport ecosystem.

In the same vein, the network’s Amazon airports were recognized for the ongoing deployment of an innovative environmental emergency monitoring and response system. Based on artificial intelligence, this technology enables more responsive and effective management of environmental risks.

Operational efficiency through data: The AERODOM project

In the Dominican Republic, the smart meter project led by AERODOM was also awarded by ACI. The system consists of installing 550 smart meters (for energy, water, LPG, and diesel) connected to a digital platform for real-time monitoring. It allows for the precise detection of critical areas and the optimization of resources where the impact is most significant, thus contributing sustainably to efforts to reduce water consumption and the carbon footprint of airports on the island.

A shared vision

Beyond the diversity of these initiatives, these awards reflect a common ambition across the VINCI Airports network: to transform the airport sector by focusing on collaboration, technology, and innovation. These distinctions also underscore the commitment of our teams and contribute to achieving the goal of net-zero emissions (Scopes 1 and 2) by 2050 for all airports managed by VINCI Airports [1].

Footnotes

  1. By 2030 for the airports located in Europe, including London Gatwick and Edinburgh. ↑

VINCI Airports, as the leading private airport operator in the world, manages the development and operation of more than 70 airports located in 14 countries. VINCI Airports draws on its expertise as a comprehensive integrator to develop, finance, build and operate airports, leveraging its investment capability and know-how to optimise operational performance and modernise infrastructure while bringing about their environmental transition. In 2016, VINCI Airports became the first airport operator to commit to an international environmental strategy, setting itself the aim of reaching zero net emissions (scope 1 and 2) across the network by 2050 while supporting its stakeholders’ transition.
